So...we watched the video on Monday about how important the vision is. I always know that visions (goals) are really important, because I once read about the quote that stated people who make the goals will eventually achieve their goals. So, I have some visions that I hope I can achieve in the future.
1. Improve my communication skills. I am not native American, so I have accent when I speak, and I could not speak as fluent as Americans, so I hope I can overcome this weakness. In order for me to improve my communication skills, I am taking Communication Studies as my minor, so I can have more chances to speak in front of people, and force myself to speak more. I will also try to speak more to classmates, so I can improve my skills.
2. Future Marketing Manager in Asia! As a marketing major, I really hope I can succeed in marketing field. Since I can both write and speak in English and Chinese, I think this skill can be my strength if I am going to work in Asia. I am working as a Marketing Intern right now, and I will continue to gain my marketing experience, so I can achieve this position in the future.
3. Save $200,000 at age 30. I am 20 right now. I hope after 10 years, I will be able to have this amount of money in my bank, so I can be financially stable. I will start to save money from the day I start working, and make sure that I can save at least 1/3 of my salary to my bank account. I will use this amount of money to travel. Also, with this amount of saving, I can make sure that I can provide great living environment for my children in future.
4. Have my own family. I hope I can start my own family before 30. I don't know the exact way to make this happen. Maybe the best way is to appreciate everything I have right now, and try to improve myself better, so I won't lose it. :)

Looks like you have some good visions. I like your vision about being a marketing manager in Asia. Asia definitely has a big field for marketing, especially now that more marketing companies are open up divisions there. As for improving your communication skill, I think it only takes time. personally, I think it is fine to have an accent, it shows more cultural difference, for me I still have some accent when I talk because I don't want to blend in completely with Americans. Speak more definitely helps, you would become a greater one day if you believe in yourself. Good luck!

p.s thanks for the comment,
Rebecca, communication is not my native language either but striving to better myself at it is my greatest goal. It captured me that you are making it your main concern and taking an initiative to perfect the language barrier. Communication courses will help you so much. I'm a communication major and it has improved my social skills, my communication skills and my self confidence. You minoring in communications if great, you have your foot in the door to improving your verbal skills. You have a lot going for you Rebecca just remember that you believing in yourself is all you need. Good luck future greatest marketing manager for sector in Asia. <*>
Well Rebbecca it seems to me that you are on a good path of success for achieving your goals. You are pursuing your degree to become a marketing expert, taking courses to better your communication skills and have a smart plan about how to save 1/3 of your income. As for the last goal that one is the most important but hardest to plan for.Anyhow, I wish you best of luck!
I like your goals, they are realistic and accomplishable. There is no reason why you should not be able to reach your visions. First of all, you seem very practical. You have already a plan of much you want to put aside in money to accomplish the $200,000 benchmark by the time you're 30. Also, there are many opportunities in the Asian Marketing sector so you should definitely be able to find a job if you speak the language. I certainly hope you will have a wonderful family, that you will find a great husband and father for your children. Lastly, concerning your communication skills, I was pretty much in the same boat. I used to audition a lot for movies and plays and often I would have gotten the part if it wasn't for my accent. This was very discouraging. Eventually I realized that there is no way around it but to work on it every day. It really made an amazing difference. Today, I still fall back into swallowing words whenever I'm tired. What helps me most is reading out loud from a book every morning for about 15 minutes. Then you start the day with an already better diction.
I think a lot of people tend to forget how important it is to save. There are so many Americans out there who live from paycheck to paycheck. They stress over financial problems and hence lose sight of their other goals in life. At first when I read $200,000, I thought that would be hard but as I continued to read that you'll start by saving 1/3 of your paycheck, I thought that shouldn't be too bad. Of course, who knows what the market will be like by then. Additionally, I don't know about you but I'm currently living with my parents and not having to pay a lot of expenses like rent and the bills helps me save a lot. When I do move out however, saving 1/3 of my paycheck will seem impossible.
i commend you for making you most important vision being able to speak better english. most people only try to learn enough to get by and there are some people who dont speak it at all after being in the country for like 40 years. but i also think that it is fine to have an accent and it makes you who you are and you shouldnt try to change that. and youre right, knowing two languages is definitely a positive and advantageous thing. hopefully you can achieve that dream of going to asia and being successful because asia is a hugh market like bling bling over there said hahaha saving money is hard but you are dong it for all the right reasons but dont limit you having a family by thirty, make sure that you are stable and happy with where you are before you start a family. its a lot of sacrifice to have a family so make sure all or most of your dreams come true before you start one, best of lick!
Rebecca, I love the last part of your goals. I am sure you will become a really kind, good mother! But before going there, I like your idea of improving your communication skills. English is not my first language as well and I also want to improve it. Becoming a marketing manager in Asia is very realistic for you too, since you are fluently in both Chinese and English, I'm sure you would go far. You have a very clear goal for saving money for the future, I should think about mine now! :)
You have very specific goals and concise plans which is great to achieve your goals. Since you know Chinese and English, it will help you to get a job in Asia. I have a heavy accent too. It is fine to have in accent as long as you are able to communicate (people understand you). Marriage is important in life; it fulfills once life. Keep trying and don't let any obstacles distract you. I wish you a successful career and personal life.
Thank you for supporting my vision of helping others. It really is a great thing to do and I hope that you continue to translate letters for World Vision. It may not be fulfilling financially but I am sure it is fulfilling emotionally.
I think your goal of improving your communication skills will be a tough challenge, but well worth the hard work and sacrifice you put into it. There are many people who come to America from various foreign countries without knowing a whole lot of English. However, after only a few short years, I can barely tell that they have an accent. Some people I cannot even tell were born in another country. I really admire that you are taking communication studies as your minor. Many people would rather die than do public speaking, and I think it is very brave of you to take on that minor for the sole purpose of forcing yourself to improve your ability to communicate in English.
Thats very interesting that you would put speaking english more fluently as one of your visions. Thats really good since you are going to major in marketing. Youhave to speak well in front of people because you have to sell your products and make it very convicing to your buyers. Also that vision of saving 200,000 will defintly happen and maybe even more if you continue the rate that you are going.
I think all your goals are possible. I agree with you that accent is one weakness for some of us, but I believe you will overcome that weakness. I think you will learn a lot from your minor and probably it will help you speak fluent as the Native Americans. But I am a little disagreeing with your second goal, because at this time, there are too many people who can speak and write in both English and Chinese. So I think for you to achieve this, you probably need more experience than the others and I believe you will make it. It is good that you plan out how much to save from your salary, it is a hard task for everyone, and if you can do it then I think you will have a better life in the future.
Marketing Manager in Asia is definitely an appealing goal! It's great you are working hard to improve your communication skills because working both in Asia and America will require an expertise in both. Practice makes perfect! So keep up the good work! Saving money is difficult sometimes especially when there are so many temptations out there. So just put the money away and don't even think about it. Before you even know it you would have saved a ton =).
You have GREAT writing skills. I'm sure your communication skills are not far behind. It looks as if you are trying very hard to make this happen and I'm sure it will. Keep up the good work.
Congrats on your push towards $200K. If you want it, you will get it.
As for family, time. Give it time. It's a beautiful thing and you will enjoy it when ever it comes your way.
You sound like you know where you want to be! Good for you. It's definitely hard to put money aside but having a solid plan like you mentioned is definitely one step towards saving that lump sum. Also, being bilingual in English and Chinese is definitely a plus in today's economy! China's market is quickly emerging. I only wish I learned to be literate in Chinese also =)
I like how you have everything planned out. I wish I was more like that. I like how you want to go to Asia and be a marketing manager. Not a lot of people want to leave the United States and do something like that. I never even thought of leaving New York I guess it takes a whole lot to leave a place where you have lived for so long. I really wish you all the best!
